WANTED - MM Water Pump
Do you have or know the whereabouts of a MM SV Engine WATER PUMP?? I am installing an OHV conversion on the SV engine and need this to complete.
There was one recent find in USA but surely we can find more in the UK. Please do some head scratching as someone you know may have one. Please take a look in your garages and outbuildings and leave no tarpaulin or box unturned......spike

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
The Smith's pump is the one that sits on the fan belt and is purely for pumping water through the heater.
What is an EWP kit????

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
That's what I thought, I can't see its relevence to the s/v engine. The water pump needs to be built into the block unless there is some cunning arrangement where it is routed through the top hose.

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump

£134.99(exc VAT)!
Very pretty but £134.99(exc VAT) couldn't you get something suitable from a washing machine?
Maybe you could use a wiper motor, sans worm gear, to drive it?

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Part of the problem is the temperature of the water (up to maybe 120 dgrees C) in the sort of engines that the EWP is designed for. Possibly an auto gearbox coolant pump might work. The Smiths pump is still one step up from no pump at all (USHM2 engines)
Has anyone got a smiths pump spare? I have all of the other bits and a rebuilt USHM2 to go with it. There were some £35 pumps at the last Beaulieu show but I forgot to go back for them. Doh!

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Ok here are some photo's of the Smiths pump and it appears to have very little wear on the spindle, I dont know much about these types of pumps apart from that they run on the outside of the fan belt (I believe)

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Yes. They work fine on low revving engines and a wide fanbelt. There were quite a few at Beaulieu that had been re-sealed and re-bearinged but I forgot to tick them off my list as I went along.
Is there any chance of you laying it flat on the bench, pouring some water down the ports and seeing if it leaks away overnight? How much would you want for it, inc postage?
Cheers
Rob

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Hi Rob I will see if I can do that in the next couple of days and let you know the result, I assume you want me to test it in the position of the last picture.
Cheers

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Yup. That would do. Thanks.
If it starts to leak down overnight without any pressure in it then it is probably going to need a seal and a new bearing/bush lathed up. Not the death of it but a pain in the butt to do.

Re: WANTED - MM Water Pump
Right I checked it as suggested and the first 24hrs produced 3 or 4 drips and then no more in the next day, so I started again and no leak in 48hrs so I have to assume the seal or gland was really dry from lack of use and the water lubricated/sealed it.
As for price I asked at our comittee meeting (as its for branch funds) and £40 inc postage was suggested Rob.
