Smiths Dials

Post by Alex'n'Ane »

I was wondering whether Smiths ever made extra dials/gauges in the same gold colour as the speedo? (pre '64.) such as oil temperature, voltage etc..? Or just in the black? Or does anyone know of any similarly gold coloured dials? Thanks.

Cream coloured gauges do exist, I think Jaegar made them, easier to get a black speedo. A suitable black speedo for a 948 would be the one used on the 1098 LCV, serial no SN4423/00, TPM 1504. Pre '64 1098 use any black speedo with a TPM 1408

You can try

http://www.greengauges.com

But I think you will only be offered black,white/magnolia.
You could ask if you supplied the painted backplate, could they apply their transfers to it.
I'm happy to ask for you as we have to do a similar proceedure for one of our clients.

Thankyou very much for the replies, and its good to know that there are places out there which could do it for me at a later date. As it is i don't think my finances can stretch quite that far. I may fit a black speedo as it seems a lot easier to get the black gauges. It just seems a shame really that Smiths didn't make more of the gold faced gauges, as i think the speedo looks nice. Thanks
