Hi,
I have just bought a morris 1000 2 door saloon, to be collected next week, and was wondering what oil is required.
I will obviously ask the seller what is in it at the moment, but if this is not the recommended i will replace at the 1st oil change.
If anyone has any suggestions, i would be grateful of them.
Thanks.

Re: What oil for a 1970 Moggie 2 Door?
Well done with your choice of car! And welcome to the forum. Any 20W50 oil will be fine. The ASDA /Morrisons stuff is perfectly satisfactory - just don't expect it to last for ever - change it every 3000 miles - or annually if only doing low miles. What is MOST important is to renew the oil filter and CHECK the plate and spring are present under the paper cartridge. These often get thrown away at an oil change - and from then on - there is NO oil filtration taking place - leading to early engine death.

Hi,
most 20/50 mineral oils will be fine. Asda is okay, for something a little better try comma premium 20/50 - good for 6000miles (see commaoil website for local retailers). As BMCE suggests, make sure you change the filter everytime.

I use Penrite HPR 30 in mine. Some may say a little OTT but I buy it in bulk for my five gallon drum (With tap) and use it in the MGs and the Traveller. Don't forget your grease gun for the suspension and hand brake cable every 1000 miles!!
Enjoy your new car

thanks allot!
very helpful, and i will. - we also have an MG midget in the household, and with the huge variation in oils i was not sure what was best!
filter points raised are also duly noted!
Many thanks once again, and all i need now is the car on sunday!

I think there are quite a few of us with MG Midgets
. Mine is a 1500, that I have owned since 1984. When I first owned the car it was a daily driver and was as new an example as I could get. I was eventually able to "Retire" it and subsequently I gave it a very thorough overhaul (Total rebuild in the end) during which I incorporated a number of improvements to the car. My father has a very nice RWA 1275 Midget and my mother has a very nice low mileage 1978 MGB GT.
