just got a replacement for my moggy, which is going to be rebuilt (the engine, not the car). its a gold seal, which i know means nothing, except its gold. it could of been driven very hard since it was rebuilt. anyway, the question is :
at the end of the engine number it has AH, using logic, does this mean its from an Austin healey? or just sheer coincidence?

Re: engine numbers
'A' series engines were prefixed 8G,- 803cc, 848cc, 948cc, 1098cc, 1275cc.
'B' series were prefixed 84G,- 1200cc, 1489cc, 1588cc, 1622cc, 1798cc.
'C' series were prefixed 86G,- 2693cc, 2912cc.
The code after was to do with rebore/regrind sizes and a job number.

Re: engine numbers
logical, very logical. so using that, does the AH refer to the job number etc?
Re: engine numbers
Yes, thats it exactly.
AH on an original engine number would refer to Automatic & High Compression, but on a rebore it is just the job code.
