Advice abou a Red stripe

Post by yiorgos »

Hello everyone

I have a morris minor 1000 4d sallon 1956 model. I decided to fix some problems and also i'm going to paint it from the start. A mechanigal told me (and he was very absolute about that)that those cars originally had a red thin stripe across their body at the height of the door handles.

I saw a lot of pictures from a a lot of moggies but i never saw something like that.

Does anyone knows anything about that?

Thank you
Y.M

Yes, definately a stripe but the colour would depend on the colour of the car, ie a black car had a red stripe. A blue car had an ivory stripe.... etc....

The stripe (coachline) runs from the front of the raised strip on the bonnet to the end of the strip at the back of the car. I was informed that the width of the coachline is 3/16". The normal colour for a green car is white, however mine is gold and it really looks good.

Hi yiorgos, you may have a beautifully painted coachline already on the car...... it just may be a green one. :D

Hmmmmm, 1956 would be either Empire Green, Sage Green or Dark Green.... AFAIK they all had a Birch Grey pin stripe except Empire Green for which there are no factory records.....

Empire Green was only used on the Series MM & II and finished in '56. That leaves Sage Green and Dark Green.
Originally all cars had a white coachline, different colour coachlines were introduced in 1956 with the M1000.

Further to my earlier posting there are at least three 1952 black Series MMs with red coachlines, so maybe I am wrong about the dates
