Valuation

Post by mugsy »

Just trying to submit a valuation form to my insurers after pickup restoration. Basically, if the insurers want an independent valuation, does anyone know of any approved Morris Minor valuers ? (West Yorkshire area if poss) Cheers.

If you are a Club member the Derby Office has a list of valuers around the Country whose valuations will be accepted by an insurance company. Office details in Minor Matters.

Why not just ask the insurance company what they require and if they have a list of appraisers that they will accept from.

Any 'valuation' is of course a completely useless figure - and doesn't represent what you would get if you tried to sell the car. Will the insurance co pay out THAT valuation figure if the car is written off - or just 'up to' that figure!!

I have a policy with RH - described as the "Club Policy" for another club I'm a member of, but I suspect RH's "Brooklands" policy is offered under several brand names. They have an agreed value clause, and are quite clear that they will pay this amount in the event of total loss - backed up by favourable reports from Club members. On the other hand, the valuation has to be through the Club, and by a particular Club official, at a cost of £40 every three years. I'd want a proper confirmation that an insurer accepted the valuation that you provide.

Most insurers will accept a valuation from a: car club official, dealer, restorer or specialist, so it widens the options especially if you have someone local to you.

Its my understanding that an insurance valuation is supposed to be 'what the vehicle would fetch on the open market', so what you would have to spend to replace it should it be a total loss. Its not supposed to take into account restoration costs or sentimantal value, so as such should be a realistic valuation. The phrase 'valued for insurance purposes at...' seen in adverts is completely meaningless.
And as Kevin says, an 'agreed valuation' is exactly that. An amount that both you and your insurance company have agreed to be the current value of the car.

Wouldn't it be more useful to have this in the (members' only) website?

Depends of course if you think the 'Club' valuation is realistic! The recent 'technical appraisal' that was given by the Club 'expert' on a car being sold on ebay for a charity - was an utter farce! No mention of the fact that the car was obviously very wrong in many details for it's age and registration plate! And - the carpets hadn't even been lifted to inspect the floors.
