Old English White Paint for grill and wheels?

Post by stephenpolhill »

Hi there. I am looking to repaint my wheels. Only trouble is the Minor spares shops only sell spray paint of the Old english white. Does anyone know where I can buy brush on old english white paint (in a tin etc.)?
Thanks
Steve

I use a 50 : 50 mix of magnolia and white dulux gloss and feel it is a very good match. Some people go with straight magnolia.. but it worth experimenting and finding the colour that suits you

I believe the problem with hammerite \ smoothite is that it becomes very brittle..

I can not comment on the "life" of dulux but i think Roy might be able to comment as I get the feeling he has painted his with magnolia paint...

Ok thanks. Would it be safer and easier to just buy the O.E.W spray?

probably easier to buy the spray but where would the fun be in that!

I think cost wise mixing the paint works out cheaper by the time you buy all the spray cans you need to paint the 4 / 5 wheels.

Ok. I might take the wheel to B&Q and ask the guy for the best paint for it, and the colour to match. That sound like the right idea?

sounds a good idea.. but i have 2 questions..

can they mix gloss to the colour you want?

what is the cost of mixed paint compared to two small pots of white and magnolia?

Well I managed to get to B&Q and asked the lady what I should use. She found some Hammerite 'Radiator' (for homes) paint. This came in Jasmine White which was too bright, and Magnolia, which I bought and matches the OEWhite well. I will paint it sometime too and pop a post in the Useful Hints and Tips section of this site for future reference :)
Thanks for your help. Magnolia is a spot on colour!
