smoke in headlamps?

Hi all a friend of mine came for some sealed beam lamps and gave him I had running around in the garage, he came back a bit later saying that they're emitting smoke in the bulb itself when connected what's this?? :)

I'm guessing that the vacuum inside has sucked in some air & what you are seeing is the tungsten filament burning . I don't think they will last very long .

well he already brought them back :) strange they all went together tho! had given him 3 different ones :)

Hmmm - sure he was using 12 volts - and not 24 ??

well I connected one fo them to my van and yes it did smoke hehe, anyway plenty more running around in the garage, thanks for the advice :)
