best breakdown cover
Hi
What breakdown providers is everyone using, not that moggies aren't ultra reliable but on the rare occasion they let us down.
Whats a good price for roadside recovery?

Re: best breakdown cover
Some of the classic car insurers (the BETTER ones!) provide FREE breakdown and recovery with the insurance. Certainly my RH Insurance includes it (foreign trip cover too - which I will never use!) - check with others. Many of the traditional breakdown firms exclude cars over a certain age - so don't rely on 'personal' cover - it may not include your classic!

Re: best breakdown cover
I have been with the AA for a few years now. Unfortunately had cause to use them once for my modern car and once with the Minor. They were excellent both times

Re: best breakdown cover
Im with FJ and ended up paying about the same amount for insurance including breakdown cover as I did with the AA for just the breakdown cover

Re: best breakdown cover
This may be a silly question, but when you get combined insurance and breakdown cover with FJ, who exactly do they use if you break down and need recovery?

Re: best breakdown cover
I have been with the AA for a while now (more for our modern car, the minor has always managed home) and always found them to be very reliable and quick to attend and generally they do try and fix your car. Also they have been good when my better half was stuck with car on her own. Some of the cheaper policies don't cover cars over a certain age and apply excesses or maximum figures to a call out or recovery so read the small print.
This year when I renewed my cover I also got a quote from the RAC and managed to get a considerable reduction from the AA who more than matched the RAC quote, so don't just accept the renewal that comes through the post each year and I believe purchasing online is a cheaper.

Re: best breakdown cover
i dont personally have breakdown cover, i can fix 99% of problems at the side of the road. IF it requires towing or recovery then dad has aa cover.
i am insured with lancaster and we do have breakdown through them, but i havent the foggiest what the number is to call when needed

I'm with the RAC, and have used them several times over the years - I do about 30k miles a year at the mo, so it's bound to happen!
They've relayed me before when I've had food poisoning (AA don't offer this service apparently). And when I was in Germany a few years ago I got a puncture & had no spare tyre, they paid for me & my 6 friends to stay in the hotel we were in for an extra night, just because the tyre shop wasn't open on Sundays.
Last week my daily ('96 Passat) wouldn't start when I was at the recycling centre, so called them. They sent a local contractor out as they were busy, they checked if there was a spark and found there wasn't (which I had already done) , so towed the car home. Then the RAC phoned & asked if everything had been ok, I said it was but they hadn't really diagnosed the problem & just towed it. so the next day then sent an RAC patrol out to try and diagnose it. By chance the patrol had a new coil on board, which solved the problem. Pretty good service I thought.
You can get RAC now with Tesco clubcard vouchers, so it's free.
