Choke sticking

Post by Morris57 »

Hi All

Happy New Year,I have a problem with the Carb on my mates Morris 1000.When I adjust the mixer screw to weaken the mixture as the engine is running very rich the choke sticks ON.Then cable is fine and the choke mechanism is free and lubricated,if I adjust the mixture to richer the choke does not stick,I have taken the top off the carb and when I slide the barrel and the needle in it seems to stick near the bottom of its travel.I have tried the needle on its own and it seems quite a loose fit into the carb base.Am I doing something wrong all help will be gratefully received.

Thanks Craig

Remove the air filter where it bolts on to the carb and push the piston up with your finger. It should fall back down with an audible clunk. If it does not then check that the needle is properly secured in the bottom of the piston. Check that the piston cover screws are tightened equally. If the piston still does not drop then slacken the two screws slightly and try again. When you have got the piston to drop then tighten the two screws a little at a time and keep checking.
pour some 3 in 1 oil into the dash pot so that it just fills the piston inside. When all is working, replace the air filter. The piston should now be free whatever the mixture setting. If it is still sticking then it is possible that the needle is bent

The jet is not centred. Follow the details in the Manual - section B10, page B10 to sort this out. If you don't have a Manual handy - PM me.
