hi there i was just wondering how do you tell if a engine is a gold sealed ?

The obvious is that it will be painted gold colour :-) Also, the engine number will start with something like "RKE" (or could be "RMK") I think ?

Don't worry about Gold Seal engines. It just means that it was factory reconditioned some time in the dim and distant past and could well have done 100,000 miles since. Gold Seal is often used as a selling point, ignore it and apply the same checks as you would any other engine

Hi I agree with Mike, goldseal engines where once much sought after, however it has been 15 years since I last saw a new unused one. Do the usual check as any other engine - be aware in winter especially of those who have started the engine up before you get there to get it warm!!
