Hi friends,
I am located in Calcutta, India. We have a Morris minor in running condition. Now I want to fully restore the car in showroom condition. Can you please give me as much information as possible.
I am attaching a few images of the car so that you can have some idea.
It is written 630 as engine no and chassis no as FAH 55 / 160.....
It has an OHV engine but split screen and registration date is 02.01.1952
Thanks a lot Mr Kevin.
As per your suggestion, I checked the website and found it to be very informative. Now I know that my car is Morris Minor Series II.
But what makes me confused is that as per the website, production of Series II starts from August 1952 and ends on September 1956 & Chassis numbers: 160001 > 448714.
But my car is registered on 02.01.1952. So, definately it was made before 02.01.1952.
The Minor identification system changed in April 1952 and cars built between this date and mid 1958 had the chassis prefix 'F'. As your car has a chassis number beginning FAH it seems that it was built after March 1952. Perhaps the date of first registration is wrong?
Incidentally there are a few series 2 cars which have chassis numbers earlier than 160001 (numbered 159190 - 159201).
Another four door series II joins the forum. Welcome milindajp. Your car will have a lot of cross over parts from the earlier side valve MM.. like mine. ;)
Interestingly yours only has one windscreen wiper? This does make it an early series 2 I guess.
My Minor:
A Clarendon Grey 1953 4 Door Series II.

Yes Kevin, you are right. The left side wipper blade is missing. And unfortunately, it is not available in India anymore.
I have already checked with the Regional Transport Authority and checked it myself in their register - the registration date is correct.
I am attaching an image of the engine no for better understanding.
As I am planning to go for a full restoration, can anyone tell me where I can find the following - these are very very important for me.
a) where I can get the workshop service manual
b) where I can get the parts list
c) best bestsite to buy parts or the place from where I can buy parts. As I am in India, so I have to buy online.

Your car is one of the Series II 4 door export Minors built in the batch from 160001 - 161021. At this time they were still building Series MMs for the home market.
I keep a register of as many Series MMs as I can find but I do not have the records of Series IIs, however with that chassis no. I suspect that it may be one of the earliest surviving Series IIs
If you contact the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust they can supply you with a certificate showing the build specification of your car. It will also give the build and dispatch dates.
The Chassis ID plate looks as though it has been refitted. The chassis no. should also be stamped on the engine bulkhead near the accelerator cable. Check that the numbers agree.
A new parts book list has recently been introduced by Moss free of postal charge in the UK or it can be downloaded from their website http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/MM.aspx

Hi Frosty I sent you a PM explaining why I edited your post but as you chose to ignore it and didn't bother with replying to me, please read this post and you will see why, and will understand why I have edited it again. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27524
