inlet manifold sorted....BUT..

Post by timmo »

Cant get it to start!!! Its an Ital engine....running fine before i put it in the Traveller. All ive changed is the 3 branch and inlet manifold. Ive got a spark at the plugs and petrol to the carb,,,,wont fire up, get a popping from the exhaust every now and again.....had number one plug out, and wasn;t wet...Which is number one on the distributor? Had the cap and leads off and also had the dizzy out, but marked it so it went back the same. It has electonic ignition.....Cant get my brain to work LOL

Cheers Tim

No 1 to TDC with 1 & 2 valves closed, otherwise you will be 180 Deg. out. Check that the leads are 1,3,4,2 anti clockwise.

Or - just swap all the leads round one by one (keeping 1342 anti-clock order) until it starts! Only takes few minutes if leads long enough. But -is there a spark at a plug ?

Yes, good spark at the plugs..Tried leads on 1342 with number 1 at tdc and timing marks lined up and also tried them 180 degrees round...will try other suggestions tomorrow, when battery is recharged  Just cant see why it was ok before i put it in but not now :-? Striped carb also, but all seemed ok

.....had number one plug out, and wasn't wet...
Might be a little clue there.
