Difficult one. I suspect you are referring to the diameter of the speaker but you also have to take into account the depth of the speaker and the position of the support bar on the parcel shelf (if you have one) as it differed over the years.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

On the convertible (1960) I mounted a pair of 6x9s on the underside of the dashboard. I used the large circular cut outs just under the glove boxes, cut a sutdy piece of wood to mount them on and bingo. The bass is amazing as they are basically bolted to the chassis of the car and you can't see them unless you lay on the floor, I have consealed the radio in the passenger glove box so there are no outward signs of any stereo....

I'm looking into refabricating the side panels beside the rear seats on a 2-door. The originals are single pieces of hardboard with a slit in to accomodate the armrest. I would use aluminium sheet curved to shape or reinforce a hardwood panel and fix in an original armrest block and a 6x9 speaker and cover in leathercloth.
I just need some tips on how to bend the metal!

I made a new parcel shelf out of MDF and then put an MDF wall from under the dash to the parcel shelf with 6x9's mounted in them.
These run off the CD player (50W per speaker) and are plenty loud enough for general listening.
If you want it to be really loud, you want to get an amp and power the speakers that way.

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
