Is the CD player part of the radio?
Is your car wired negative earth?

Hooray! Something I can advise about finally!

Do you have an instruction manual that comes with the CD player? That should have a wiring diagram in it, which will be your first port of call.

You should also have a wiring harness with the CD player, something like this...
Image

There will be three 'parts' to this harness, one that plugs into the back of the CD player, one that has the speaker connections and one that has the power connections. The speaker connections can easily be worked out by following the wiring diagram, it should be simple.

The power connections will most likely require a permanent 12V feed (from the battery live (+), an earth connection (to the body of the car / neg terminal on battery) and a switched live feed (to turn it off when the ignition is off).

Firstly, the switched live feed. This connection should be taken from the switched live side of the fusebox. However, it is optional, the CD player will work without this connection... you will just have to remember to turn the CD player off when you turn the car off.

Secondly, the permanent live feed. This should come from the permanent live side of the fusebox, or could come straight off the battery (+) terminal with an inline fuse - this is what I am doing temporarily at the moment.

Lastly, the earth. Simply connect like any other earth connection, to an area of bare metal on the body of the car.

To make the connections from the wiring harness to the power connections mentioned above you might find it easier to cut away the black plastic 'plug' and connect the wires from the lives and earth to the harness via a choc block. Modern cars with connections for a CD player already in place would have connections for this plug but the minor obviously doesn't!

You will have to look at the wiring diagram that comes with the CD player for the which colour wires etc but it should be pretty straight forward.

Hope that helps

My advice is take the radio unit to Maplins or some where similar and buy a matching socket. They will probably have one with training wires and search of Google for a wiring diagram. that way it will be easier to fit the unit.

Here is one I found on the web

It may look complicated but it really isn't.

One plug just does the speaker connections. So if you just have front speakers only connect to pin 3+4 and 5+6 on connector B

The other plug does the power.

You only need to connect to pin 4,7+8 on connector A.

pin 4 connects to a switched circuit that only comes on with the ignition.
pin 7 needs a permanant 12 volt supply and its good practice to fit a fuse in this connection. If you don't connect this the radio will loose it's memory every time you turn it off.
Pin 8 to earth

You can ignore connector C

Good luck

when i put the radio in my car i went to get a plug to match my sony radio, the guy at the shop said it would be a lot easier to chop the plug off and just join the wires. with connector blocks or solder. so i soldered the power cables and used connector blocks on the speakers in case i wana change. it was a lot easier i thought.

what i did with the live power was take a connection off the ignition so it will come on when i start the car and will turn off by its self when i take the key out a lot easier and i have no chance of leaving it on. :)

It's better to fit a proper plug set up, - makes it easy when you upgrade.

You will need a permanent 12 volt +ve or the CD will start at the beginning every time you turn the engine off. The yellow wire needs to be switched so that it turns the unit off when you switch off.

I'm sure a nice 1000 watt sub would fit in the boot.
