thermostat

Post by Willie »

if the thermostat is stuck wide open you might get that result. If is
stuck shut them the engine will try to jump of its mountings!! Hope you
have an 82 degree 'stat fitted? You do not want the 74 degree one.
These gauges are not precision instruments so you need to get to
know what the 'normal ' reading is for your particular car.

temperature

Post by Willie »

I think that, due to the problems you have had with your gauge
you are worrying too much and, if your engine is running on the
cool side it won't wreck the engine. It will be interesting to hear
what thermostat you have in at the moment. As a rough rule of
thumb you should just about be able to hold on to the heater
supply rubber pipe (at the rear of the cylinder head) when the engine is fully warmed up but find
the top of the radiator too hot to keep your hand on.
