New Lowlight front wings. Want some?

I was wondering if there would be much call for new steel lowlight front wings. Does anyone make them at the moment? How much would people be willing to pay?
They wouldn't be show condition straight out of the box but I'm getting better all the time.<br>Image<br>

Wings. Highlight ones with the highlight section removed and a smooth panel welded in its' place, the reverse of what they did in about 1950.

Finished. Starting to get a tiny bit thin at the edges but it will do the business.<br>Image<br>

If you want it, how about £5 for the material and then P&P? I'd need to make it a fairly rigid box to keep it from denting. A bit of primer and some topcoat will protect it and you'd need to put a seal of gunge to keep the moisture out. Not as good at keeping shape round the seams as steel after you've put the bolts in.

Ummmm. I assume that you wanted a left one? :D

By the way looking at the front of my glass wings I'm pretty sure that they are a different profile to highlight wings theres no flat bit and the curve seems more pronounced.

I am sure that there would be a small demand for lowlight wings, especially if you could break into the overseas market. I assume that you would produce them to order so that you would not be tying your finances up in unsold items, although a pair of demo wings might boost the orders
Best of luck with the project, we need more people to produce rare parts to ensure the survival of the Series MM.

Fancy making me a couple of those :). as for the wings, two nos went for 120 odd each on ebay a little while ago. I got a pair in NZ a whole cheaper ;)

Those ebay wings were not nos wings, they were used items. Believe me, i know! :lol: :wink: 8)

They are in very good condition though and will be going on the early 49! :D :wink:

Can anyone with both a lowlight and a highlight (pref Srs2 etc) have a look at the profiles of the front wings in the general area of the 'light pod' on the later wings to see what difference there is. Are Srs2 wings the same basic shape as lowlights but with a bit added or did they make a completely new profile? My highlight is about 5 miles away at the moment.

I know Henrics used to "remove" the highlight section and re-make the missing bit as we have a Henrics wing on my Dad's lowlight :wink:

Right, the curve looks the same BUT the highlight wing bulges out from the bottom flange whereas the lowlight one comes up straight.

I can see what you mean by the bulge thing. The lowlight is vertical at that point but the Srs2 leans forwards. Not an insurmountable problem, though. I guess I'll have to buy a new wing and start cutting.

I remember I had to trim a bit off my valance when I fitted the lowlight wings, so theres definatley a bit of a difference between the two.

I think Henrics used to chop off the enitre front of a new wing from just behind the axle centre line and build the new from there forwards, obvviously with work ont he top as well. Remember seeing a pile of new 1000 wing front ends on a stall at a national years ago - presumably the offcuts! Thats how I would do it if I was doing one anyway.

The different valance on the lowlight allows for the curvature at the front of the lowlight wing

So has anybody actually got or had one of these Henric wings? Don't think I,ve ever seen one anywhere and if they are any good I would be interested in a pair.

I remember seeing the jigs they were made on, but not the actual wings. Only made to order I assume. I imagine the jigs went to Hadrian when Henrics sold up to them along with the LCV chassis jig.

Bought it new from Beaulieu Autojumble in 1991. Couldn't belive our luck in finding one at the time! :lol: :wink:
The chances of finding one now is about the same as finding any more new old stock BMC items i'm afraid! :cry:

I enquired about lowlight wings several years ago and was informed that the jigs had been destroyed.
