hi

Post by neiltomlinson »

hi just found this on ebay
morris minor diff 3.7 ratio riley 1500 1.5 wolsley
Current bid: £102.00

Item number: 180443675557
Item location: castleford, West Yorkshire
morris diff 3.7 ratio

fitted to my morris for about 6 months then stuck in the garage for future use... selling as i won't be modding minors any more! the diff was bought as a low mileage unit from a riley that a friend wrote off when only a few months old. i will post pics of crown wheel and pinion once stripped out of the axle this week. i believe this to be quite a rare item these days so bid early

hope this helps neil but be quick :P

Mine cost £70 a few months ago. They seem to have become more popular recently!

Will be cheaper if you can find one NOT on ebay - try the Midget forums for example. It seems stuff on ebay either goes for a huge amount or for nowt - Can't get it myself....?

the 3.7 used to be cheaper than the 3.9
But prices on ebay are not that easy to predict.

If you are going for the 5 speed box you are unlikely to need a diff ratio change as well as its likely to drag the performance down quite a lot.

He's (wisely in my view) decided NOT to have the 5 speed box! There are some bargains about - a complete rear axle from a Riley 1.5 sold recently quite cheaply - considering it had the 3.7 diff, rear hubs, half shafts - and the v rare large rear brakes!

I think a 3.7 diff would over gear it (Unless you were running 13" wheels).

Late 1275 Midgets and early 1500s use 3.9 diffs (I reckon this is a better compromise with 14" wheels) and the later Midget 1500s used the 3.7 diff (As did the Riley 1.5). There was also a special 3.55 to 1 Special Tuning version.

They're very rare; I've only seen one for sale once. I must look up the part number in Lyndsay Porter's Midget book.
