Mini engine

Hi peolpe,

i was just wondering if it is posible to fit a mini engine to a morris. I know a mini is fwd but is there anyway of converting it to rwd. I think i have read somethink somewhere before sorry if it is on here forgot wat the title was :oops: .

You would need to find a way of fitting the complete front subframe - but when you compare a Mini to a Minor - you can see where the basic Mini design came from - similar 'bulkhead' arrangement! It should be possible - let us know how you get on!

The gentleman refers to "converting to RWD", not fitting a FWD unit!

The answer, to all practical intents, is no, and there are plenty of RWD engines around, so not worth the grief! JLH has some clever scheme employing bits of old Maestro engines, I believe, but as he seems to have cornered the market on said engines that is a bit of a blind alley!
General advice if you have a mini engine seems to be flog it to the mini fraternity!

Put the subframe in the rear of the Minor ?? :lol:
Or - get hold of one of the very rare 4 wheel drive Mini gearboxes (some Mokes and the Works Rallycross cars) - and use the rear extension to drive the rear axle !

I have actually thought of putting a subby in front of a Minor several times in the past - but since I have now moved on most of my Mini parts - it wouldn't make much sense for me now. But could be a way of 'rescuing' a Minor that had been in a hard frontal - like the one currently for sale!

Or stick the "K" series subframe in as per MGF? Now there's a frightening thought :wink:

Seb, I think the main problem with the mini engine is that it has a different end on the crankshaft - there is a shaft to put an idler gear on (http://www.minisport.com/acatalog/info_CAM6232.html), rather than the rwd design (http://www.charleswaresmorrisminorcentr ... /eng02.gif) that has a flat surface to bolt the flywheel onto.
