Help in Bristol

Post by loti »

Hi, my son and I embarked on our second restoration of our Moggy 1000 earlier this year. We wanted to upgrade the engine and got hold of a dismantled 1275 MG engine. We rebuilt it, hopefully well enough, and fitted a new second hand carb, electronic ignition sytem and bigger bore exhaust. Unfortunately once all bolted together it wouldn't start and despite trying numerous different things we had no success. We then both ran out of enthusiasm and time. I would like to get it going and eventually back on the road so I am wondering if there is anyone in the Bristol area who could give us the help we might need. I would be willing to pay for a bit of time - could be my son's Christmas present! if you can help please post here or contact me at markgraham@blueyonder.co.uk
Thanks for looking

Why won't it start ? Is it turning over ok ? Is there fuel getting to the carb ? And are there any sparks at the plugs! Basic questions - but it's back to basics till we suss out what's wrong.

Is the fuel getting into the float chamber as the needle valves can stick with age.

Pretty sure fuel getting through. Not sure of compression apart from thumb over spark plug holes feels fine.
