Engine ID

Post by ADO16 »

Hello everyone,

Sorry but I haven't posted in a while, still sorting my finances on the MM project that I've undertaken.
I do have one question regarding an engine that I got at a swap meet. I believe that it's an 803cc unit but can't confirm it. The numbers on the plate in the front is APHM 10248, could this be an 803cc?

Thanks all,
Steve

Yes "APHM" is indeed a 803 Minor Series 2 engine....

Thanks for that! I thought it was, as the guy that I bought it from wasn't sure what it was from. Anyway, I guess it can be used as a boat anchor because I'm almost sure there won't be any takers for it.

The 803cc engines are getting pretty thin on the ground now so I would imagine you should find a taker for it.

Maybe not so much demand for them in the USA?

Well, if anyone needs one you know where to find one. I'm not sure of the condition but it appears that its been taken care of because the outer bits are clean and not pressure wash cleaned, but only the dizzy is missing. I will probably open it up to see the wear condition and go on from there. If anyone you know is looking for one from here in the states, I will have it available as shipping would be cheaper.

The topic is not really applicable to the Series MM Register which deals with the side valve engines. I will try to get it moved to the main message board where it will be read by a wider audience

No worried Steve, I just thought it would get a better readership on the main notice board.

Perhaps see if there's an Austin A30 club over there in the USA? They also used the 803, in fact that's where it came from originally

I assume you're going to use a sidevalve in the MM?

Thanks for the info regarding that A30 lead as I will follow that one up. Yes, I plan to use the original engine in hopes that it may need a bit of work but I was lucky to find an additional three other sidevalve power units from a collector that doesn't need them anymore.
