been reading the forums for a while and thought id join and introduce myself. Im Al and i have a 69 moggy 1100. I bought her as a peice of swiss cheese that was off to the scrappy (a birthday persent for my wife) £65 well spent. I then learnt to weld quite quickly and started to build her up. all in all it took me about 8 months to rebuild her to the point she got her first clean mot. Got a nice collection of 3 of them now, however i've just taken her off the road again to put a perminant paint job on her (she was sprayed matt black as a ....tempoary measure)
ive added some photos and hope to share comments with you all, and rack your brains for tech tips.
i do was looking at keeping it that way but my better half has decided (after 3 years) on a colour well two actually. a metalic light green and an ivory, hopefully it'll look good

Matt black is the next big thing I reckon, I saw a couple of very expensive AMG mercs with matt black at the last London Motor Show, and there was a Ferrari 612 with it in the MPH hall at the NEC earlier this month...now we know where they got the idea from

Depends what you wanna spend - 60/65bhp is tops for a 1098 without spending £1000's which is the starting bhp for a 1275. Do the same mods on a 1275 and you are looking at about 80bhp. 1.4 k series prob give you 100bhp but would need some work to get it in (probbly more time than money though)....

Engine power - suppose it all depends how deep you pockets are but dont automatically discount the much maligned 1098. Consider that from for sale part of this site and fleabay buying a 1275 which needs a full rebuild will cost you approx £150. For this amount you get a bog standard bare engine Marina (60bhp and 72 lb/ft of torque) with no ancilliaries. Then you have to buy a few bits and pieces to make it fit and run.
It is relatively simple to coax 60 BHP out of a 1098 (head, cam, carburetion, exhaust) for little or no more money than the original purchase price of your 1275 (excluding exhaust cos you would change that on the 1275 anyway). Note that the 1098 Midget gives 59BHP and 65 lb/ft as standard
Granted if you're going further and want a real rocket ship a modified 1275 (or a non A transplant) is the way to go. But at a cost.
