Traveller Rear Wing 2

Post by mike.perry »

The inner rear wing on my Traveller has rotted out from the boot floor to the top, just inside the bodywork. The problem is it is next to the wood frame and it has a fibreglass rear wing. I know but the wing was on the car when I bought it and I see no reason to throw away a good wing.
Is it repairable without removing the rear body from the car or to put it another way is it going to cost a fortune? :(

I had to do quite a lot to both the inner wings on our Traveller - but I was lucky in that it hadn't gone in close proximity to the woodwork. You'll have to investigate just how rotten yours is, if you (or whoever is welding) can do a good structural repair to good metal more than a couple of inches from the wood, you'll be fine, get much closer than that and you'll have to be mindful ful about charring it.

I'm into mechanics not bodywork except the occasional wash and polish so welding is not my scene, hence the comment about costing a fortune. And yes it is very close to the woodwork

Mike send me a pic and I'll see if I can advise as to it being a problem or not and an estimated cost in hours to perform the work.PM might be best or an email to the company address.

I hope to bring my s/v engine up for your engine builder to look at soon. It is out of the car and I am cleaning the worst of the dirt off it, so you will be able to look at the Traveller then.
Cheers
