1098 flywheels and clutches

I am slightly puzzled; I know many have fitted redrilled 1098 flywheels to marina/ital engines. Are people using the 1275 midget clutch on these or sticking to the 1098 minor clutch? I had bought a 1275 clutch thinking
that I would need this to take the extra torque, but have realised that the clutch plate is too small for the 1098 flywheel that I have got, and of course the flywheel is not drilled correctly

So is everyone using a 1098 clutch on these engines, and can the 1275 clutch not be used- anyone help?

Assuming you are fitting a 1275 to a 1098 box.... If so, you need to redrill the 1098 flywheel to a 6 bolt fixing to line up with the 1275 crank and use a 1098 clutch kit as per normal.
The Midget 1275 clutch can be used although the pedal can be heavy as this was designed for hydraulic operation.

If you use the Midget flywheel and clutch then you can use the standard 1098 clutch forks and release bearing. To restore the correct pedal travel and weight you will need to weld an extra inch onto the relay shaft lever which connects to the clutch pedal and re drill the hole 1in from the original hole. I have this setup on my Midget engine and the results are perfectly satisfactory, especially with a roller bearing clutch release bearing

That's it - the 1275 Spridget clutch fits the 1275 Spridget flywheel - but does not fit a 1098 flywheel! If you drill the 1098 flywheel to fit the crank - it needs doing v accurately since there is no spigot to locate the flywheel on the 1275 crank. You will be relying on agood snug (accurate!) fit of the 6 bolts to locate the flywheel dead central on the crank.
