I dont mind it. But ads in general could be a good way of earning a little extra cash for the club (as long as they dont cause any errors for some users).
IMO the club hasnt done enough to ensure competitive insurance schemes for club members for years. FJ has been club chosen for donkies years.
Ive had quotes from them every other year, and know of other minor and classic car owners who have also and they are consistantly mediocre in value for money, im hoping the service when a claims made isnt as bad as the price.
Seems theres no pressure from the club to constantly push for better deals to members. Do they ever publish correspondance or reveiw status of our club approved suppliers???
I generally hate advertising.
I accept i might have to pay for non advertised websites but thats just me.

Incidently, "FJ" were not the best deal* for me this year (despite club membership and renewal from last year) so when will the "other" insurers have their chance at an ad or even let some of the traders have a go ??
* by saying "deal" I don't just mean cheapest price - I'm talking overall package including breakdown, european and caravan coverage etc...

I don't really mind advertising on the site if the club takes in revenue from this but it would be better if we had a range of adverts from various suppliers that was updated every 2/3 months. Like others I haven't used the FJ for years as they never provided the best quote.
FJ will not cover caravans/trailers and contents so if your caravan gets blown over on the way to the national rally and the contents are strewn all over the mororway -- tough!
You seem to be almost implying that it would be FJ's fault if you had an accident and were not suitably covered No one is being forced into using FJ. No insurance company can possibly offer cover for every single item, or every eventuality that may occur, so it's up to the individual to ensure that they have suitable insurance cover to meet their needs.

Which in the majority of cases (probably!) would probably NOT be a policy with FJ!

Im sure theres a few other companies/Brokers out the who'd fancy being connected to a Large Classic car club such as ours.
I accept that any problems with an approved insurer can backfire on the club which endorses it as an approved insurer though, so would take lots to change.

FJ were £103 last year when i got my quote from them.

im tempted to use the clubs scheme,
but they dont include breakdown cover with the quote I had off them so think ill stay put for another year.

As can be seen from other threads, plenty of members are happy with the prices and service provided by FJ. However, regardless of which insurance company provided a club service, there would still be some members who, because of their particular circumstances, would not find it the most appropriate insurer for them. Everyone has different needs and expectations from their insurance company. When my policy expires in January I'll consider using FJ but I'll make comparisons with other companies first before making a decision in order to find the best policy for my particular circumstances. It's difficult to see how the Club could "chase the best priced company and general policy terms for members" in a way that would please every single member as insurance cover depends on so many variables. Under the circumstances I think it's a bit unfair to imply that the Club hasn't attempted to obtain the best deal for it's members.
The 'official' MMOC line is (taken from the members site 'about the club)
The MMOC has an agreed value specialist insurance scheme to provide members with cover for their Morris Minors. A recent survey conducted by an insurance expert within the Club showed this to operate one of the best policies for classic cars. Insurance valuations for cars outside the Practical Classics price guide, can be arranged.
But I'm not too sure how this squares with this statement , extract from a recent letter to the trade from the MMOC, on a seperate issue, but nevertheless implying the essence of Club policy.
"We also reiterated our stance that we do not recommend individual traders, never have done so in the past and have no intention of doing so in the future.
We do however continue to offer the opportunity for all traders to advertise via our Club magazine and to promote their products and services at branch events and at the National Rally.
The consultation has been a useful exercise in reaffirming the views of a cross section of traders that the Club should retain its independence so far as traders are concerned"
My question is simple , are the insurance companies not regarded as 'trade'. and if not how is a 'prefered' insurer allowed access to exclusive advertising throughout the website, especially so, on the messageboard.
(I understand that technically its on the header but it shows on every page of the messageboard.)
I have made two appeals, for information on the FJ advertising, from a club official and the webmaster, but so far I have yet to receive an official reply.
I have recently chatted with a member of the comittee about this unofficially and am hoping that we may meet to discuss it further.
Clarification of the process leading to the decision to promote the FJ advert would for me, hopefully establish that the MMOC do run a level playing field
