£15K for a fully restored Morris is a good price when you consider you are essentially having a car dismantled and rebuilt for you. I have seen a few full restorations and the work involved is absolutely immense.
Anyway I agree that the club should enter into negotiations to buy this car so that it is preserved and displayed at shows in the summer and in a museums around the country in Winter. I wouldn't want the club to spend £25K but maybe £12K to £15K would be a good price.
Would the club be elidigble for any sort of funding to purchase such a rare car or the club could have a special collection so that those who want to can contribute to the purchase and ongoing maintenance/storage costs.

Shelby Cobra, Lotus Cortina, Mini Cooper S and if they have a racing or rally pedigree the price just climbs.autolycus wrote:Are there any classic cars, of any make, that are worth (i.e. would sell on the open market) more than, say 2/3 of the cost of buying and professionally restoring them? As a matter of interest the Rae Davis A35 the peanut was sold a few years ago at the end of a season and made almost £19,000.

I expect that Morris Minor's fans have a strong heart, so they will doing all possible and not possible to take the Million to our Club!!! but
after words we only talk and talk, and no actions. I think this is the right moment to show how we love the Morris Minor.
Maybe is possible to arrange a comitie who can handle the negotations with the actuar owner with auction company directly, Once again I am open to pay something more to take the car foir our club.
I hope you can understand my bad english, and my feelings
cheers

To be honest, why doesnt the Heritage Motor Museum show an interest in this? This is a celebration of a British first, and everyone - not just members of the MMOC - should know about it.
If the MMOC buy it, they'll generally only be able to show people who are already interested in Moggies - and will probably already know about the millon.
Everyone should know that the Morris Minor was the first british car to hit the 1 million mark - not the Mini, or anything else.
Well, I'm off to paint this on the roof of my house to do my bit...

Have now joined the 'cool kids' at http://www.morrisminorowners.co.uk

Not a warning - I was just wondering how you know that the Club isn't doing anything? Have you been in touch with the Committee and put forward your suggestion? Have they responded? Just interested to know whether your statement was based on fact or whether you're just making an assumption?I suggested MMOC should buy the car ages ago. They are sitting on their hands - as usual, probably counting their ex..... better stop or I'll get a warning!

Thanks Louise,
I will cross the fingers to have a positive answer from the Committee.
This is because maybe one day I can fly to UK and after my arrived may be I can seat into the 1.000.000 and also maybe driving a few milles around, this is because I cannot buy the car for me, in my opinition this car is very important for he Morris Minor's history and all of us (MMOCMembership) will have share of the 1.000.000.
Once again Louise my Big Thanks (Muito Obrigado in Portuguese)
Cheers

I am with you Carlos, as a distant member living away from the UK, I would like to think that our club would in some way get access to this vehicle. Either through sponsorship/ contribution or if it came to it kidnapping.
I would be happy as a member to pay £5 or £10 extra this year to know that a car like this has been saved and put in the domain of the club.
The problems then arise, who looks after, insures etc etc. Well I will happily contribute to this each year.
Cheers Peter
