front inner bearing question

Hi wonder if anyone can guide me

i bought a morris a while back which had had a front brake conversion fitted.

ive just got round to fitting it to my project car, it seems to have a hub that is converted stud pattern to fit moggie wheels as i can see where its been slotted and new studs put in.

when i was taking the bearings out for renewal i could not get the inner bearing off of the stub axel. it was on so tight that it had to be butchered to get the back plate caliper mount off. i then tapped it hard from the back to get the rest of the bearing off.

I have ordered a new set for a marina/ital/tr7 but i was thinking of fitting a old ital bearing that came off of a old donor car for a trial fit as im dubious where the stub came from and it wont go on. it seems i could force it on with a drift but im thinking its not interferance fit and it should slide on and off with ease or at least be pushed on with hand force??

i dont want to take some wet n dry to the stub to take it down untill ive got some advice from you guys first as this coudl be rectified by taking a few 1000 off the face.

what type of brakes do you have the Marina setup usually has a spacer on the inner bearing as its to big for the minor stub axle & the outer one is also an odd size due to the Marina bearings being imperial & the Minor metric. also the Minor kingpins can be machined to take the Marina stub axle

Looks the same setup as I have. The spacer is still on your stub axle although it looks a bit damaged. If I remember correctly the last time I had mine in bits the bearing was a reasonably firm fit on the shaft but went on & off without too much force needed. Also don't use the std outer Marina bearing as it will be too large for the end of the Minor stub axle

right, so basically the bit thats chivved is a aftermarket add on so the morris marina rear bearing can be used on the standard minor stub?

i should use a standard marina back bearing on this setup but the front bearing cant be used and a non standard has to be used? have i got this right?

ive bought a set of standard marina bearings but i cant see me getting the back bearing on easily?

Yes . I did write down the bearing No's last time I had mine apart but cant find it (think I may have accidentally binned it

) they were nothing special just a standard size taper roller . I think ESM did a kit with the necessary spacers in

sorted problem now, exactly as you saidwith the bearings, i sanded down the bearing lightly with emry to take downand the bearing is now a much smoother fit on the stub, as it should be now, the other bearing is diffrent so ill get one from esm as marina is too larger diameter.

haveing probs on my home computer but ill try to take pics tonight before they get painted.

I have the same set up as yours which is all snugly fitted

and I don't want to dismantle so it would be really useful to me and others if you could post the bearing part numbers for the mod. It would be useful to have a spare set because mine are getting a bit of a rumble as was pointed out by the MOT tester

Hi, I think the part numbers are as follows:-
outer bearing is numbered Timken 30203
inner (original Marina) Bearing Timken L44649/44610 - Unipart GBH101
Inner seal Unipart GHS126
So long as the 'top hat' spacer on the stub is OK you can buy the bearings alot cheaper than the kit price.
