Can anyone help me? I'm on the Isle of Wight with my 50 year old Morris. The engine is running fine, but there's a strange grating sound coming I think from my dynamo. I've checked the manual and it mentions dynamo maintenance which I've never carried out. Is the sound likely to be the bearings? I'm due to drive back to London tomorrow.
Will I cause damage to anything else other than the dynamo if I drive it?
Will I make it back to London if my dynaml fails?
If it fails, will I still be able to get back home?
I'm going out soon to try and find a Morris friendly garare on the IOW -but worried I'll cause further damage -does anyone know of one?

Not sure about the dynamo problem as it's not something I've experienced myself but hopefully someone on here will be able to advise. In this previous thread someone recommended Prices Garage, Newport as being 'Minor friendly' : http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?name=P ... isle+wight

Re: HELP! Dynamo problems!
Sorry, this is a VERY late reply! I was just glad to get home from the IOW and didn't look back on the forum until now...... It was actually the bush they replaced! THey put their apprentice on it. It took 45 mins (I sat and waited) and was charged £2.75 for the bush and £20 labour! I think in London, that would have been a replacement of the dynamo (probably a 6 week wait whilst they found one) a few hours labour at a lot more than £20! Infact, I'd told my local garage about the lack of charging when they'd had it in last -and they didn't find the faulty dynamo. Thank heavens for the IOW!

Well done for coming back to us - it's good to get the feedback - and very well done 'Prices' too.
