Steering

Post by parausidevalve »

My horn is coming on when I turn corners and when I looked the brass ring on the steering column is fractured/worn out and needs replacing/mending. Has anyone any ideas how to do this please?

The easy way is to get hold of another steering column and replace the whole unit. Snag is that they usually come attached to a steering wheel and a silly price tag of up to £100. If you can find one with a battered old wheel you should get it cheaper, unless you need a better steering wheel.
The other way is to remove the steering wheel then the column complete with support bracket, by undoing the pinch bolt at the bottom. Mark the position of the column on the spline to aid re assembly. Slide the bracket and bush off the top of the column followed by the brass ring. you would probably have to get a new brass ring made by your local friendly machine shop as I doubt whether anyone stocks them.
