I found myself out of work a few years ago and my mate who worked for the civil service at the jobcentre suggested asking if they had any casual vacancies going.
Not bad pay and it gave me 6 months work, I would have thought they are crying out for casuals at the moment with all the jobless people they have to deal with.
It's worth a try, just ask when you go in.

Agree. Judging by the garage staff at my local Sainsbury's you might have failed to demonstrate an appropriate level of customer contempt.

Have you considered re-training? I heard on the Beeb yesterday that Mandy has announced a new scheme to train 30,000 or so 'technicians'
over the next two years........to work in "tech labs", I believe. I did't catch everything as Long Wave radio fades in and out.
Such schemes for people presently out of a job ususally come with extras in the way of support.
It's tough now for everyone, so it might make sense to start mapping out a whole new life. Employers like people who take up government training....it shows they have initiative and are actively trying to move up in the world.
In the meantime, try to listen to "That's Life!" by Frank Sinatra.....always good for a psychological pep-up!
I've had my share of the 'downs' regarding how to move forward. In the end, it is up to the individual. No one is going to come rushing to YOUR door - you have to get out there and keep at it.

I think things have improved since the Job Creation Scheme of the Thatcher government in the eighties.
I went on one......farce! About 40 guys were given donkey jackets and spades, and a portacabin was put in place. The plan was to manually level an area of waste ground and create a football pitch.
SIX WEEKS! A man with a JCB could have done it in a couple of hours!!

This re-training thing....
A family member having been made redundant in the recession was invited to re-train as a teacher. The government were pushing it earlier this year to try and get some of the bankers back in work. She took them up and has since been made redundant again as the school she was training at has cut back on staff. Due to the recession... Doh!!
