paint colour
Could someone please tell me the paint colour for the wheels and radiator grill on a 1970 blue smoke grey saloon. Also if possible the paint code for this colour.
Many thanks

The wheels would have been silver in 1970. You used to be able to buy silver wheel paint at motor factors which was a good match - not too dark and not too light.

Ooops
It was Old English white on my late '69 Smoke grey car. I guess it had been repainted incorrectly.

As above 68/69 left the factory with a Snowberry White grille and Dark Silver wheels..... Although, if it was registered as an early G reg it may have been built as a 67 car (then would be OEW wheels & grille) - The chassis number should help with that one though....

David - it would depend on when in 68 your car was registered (could have been built in 67) as there was a gradual changover in that year, however "most" 68 vehicles had Snowberry White grilles and Dark Silver wheels ;-) In fact I believe commercial vehicles sold to the general public had Dark Silver as the wheel colour much earlier - I seem to remember from around 1960, although I am not 100% certain on that fact.....

Chassis number would give a reasonable indication of that. If it was built as a chassis cab (third letter a "Q") it was most likely in primer finish (as my Traveller was)....Dan_Harris wrote:Could have been shipped completely in primer.....

Smoke grey wasn't a standard LCV colour but Dove Grey or Cumulus grey were used on LCV's during 1968. Could it be one of these?
A dove grey lcv would have a dove grey grille and aluminium wheels. A cumulus grey lcv had a dark silver grey grille if Austin badged and a snowberry white grille if Morris badged with beige seats. If it was Morris badged with black seats the grille would have been glacier white. All cumulus grey lcv wheels were dark silver.

Well I prefer the look of old english white on wheels even if silver is correct for the year, as a matter of interest its still available in Halfords just look under Rover Arum White.
Cheers
