THE Minor Million up for sale?

Is this true? I was talking to a pal of mine (a ford owner!!) and he happend to mention that he had heard that the 1000000th Minor is up for sale! Anyone know how much for? Is the owner a member of the owners club? Has anyone seen it lately?

Here's a picture of the one for sale by auction, they expect it to achieve between £25- 30 thousand. Auction was today at Royal Bath and West Showground Shepton mallet.<br>

I guess we will have to wait until the sold prices are published in Classic Car Weekly next Thursday unless an MMOC member was at the auction and posts on here later.

Could the MMOC pull together some funds for the car? It is going to be auctioned again in February 2010 at the Bath and West Showground. I'm suprised it didnt sell to a collector.

I suggested ages ago that the MMOC should be buying this car! What else are they doing with their cash ? But as usual - they are just sitting on their hands - and seemingly (from the notes of the last AGM) worrying about their 'expenses'!

at least then the mebers can see somthing for their membership

It would appear that the car did not sell, failing to make it's reserve of £25k.

Don't agree that the Club should use up £30k for one car. No one else valued it at that, so why should the Club pay over the odds for it?

Whoever buys it (eventually) will want to keep it as an asset so it will still be around. Hardly likely to be caught up in the scrappage scheme.

£30k could be used to further the Owners Club cause much better than on just one car

It won't be £30k - it failed to reach £25k at this auction. Some 'negotiation' with the owner would likely get the car for £20k. It is unique - it should be owned by the Club!

Possibly Charles Ware - they are quoted later in the BBC and seem to be involved. They say they charge an amzing £15,000 for a fully restored Minor - and so I imagine the seller feels this 'special' car - and it's Registration Number -is worth the extra £10,000. Obviously - if the auction only reached £8000, the public don't agree. Draw your own conclusions!

I would have have thought it would have made a bit more than £8,000 tho, I have seen other millions go for around the £6,000 so with this ones history...... I thought it would have made a bit more.
Who owns this vehicle now anyway? I have read various articals over the years and I thought it was bought as just a normal minor, it wasnt until the new owner got it home he realised it was the millionth one. Also did he not try to get the owners club/heritage club? to restore it for him? I just wonder who he is aiming his price at? Would an average Minor ethusiast pay £25.k for it? Would a Motor Museum pay £25k for it? (I suppose going off yesterdays results, No!!)

I cant believe that some people would pay 15k for a Minor!

I love them, but 15k? even if it was concourse, I still wouldnt pay 15k.

£15K is cheap for a 'proper' full restoration from a professional restorer, just look through the parts lists alone and add them up, then factor in the labour and VAT.

Are there any classic cars, of any make, that are worth (i.e. would sell on the open market) more than, say 2/3 of the cost of buying and professionally restoring them? Forty years ago, perhaps...
