Rebuilding spare 10V engine Main bearings do not have tab locking washers fitted is this correct?
Also bearing in mind the block is going off to the machine shop to be rebored is their any merit in fitting one of these modified rear oil seals.
Can I remove the tappet cover breather and fit it to the fuel pump blanking plate
Engine rebuild

Bill, if you do fit a rear seal oil kit speak to the machine shop doing your block as thes seals do rely on being fitted correctly and have fairly close tolerances. They are too expensive to just fit and hope for the best.
I have one at home if you want to see it and I am in Nethy Bridge on Friday so could maybe leave it somewhere for you to collect. Jeff

I wouldn't bother with a rear seal - but it's your choice! Leave the cam follower breather where it is - why would it not work there ? Where have you read that it's useless ?? It works just fine! You can certainly add a breather to the fuel pump outlet - but I can't see the need for this! It is sometimes done on 'full race' 1275 Mini engines - and that's mostly because they don't have cam follower covers.

The difference between the 1098 and 1275 engines is that the 1275s have very little clearance past the push rods. This can be seen when filling with engine oil, the 1098 rocker box drains a lot faster than the 1275. This also means that the crankcase pressure cannot escape into the tappet chest or rocker box as rapidly which is why it needs to be sucked out.
