Morris Expert/Enthusiast sought for advice

Calling any London based Morris Enthusiast for help and advice,

I've been looking at your excellent site and realise that this is the place to come for some much needed advice!

I own a Morris Minor 1000, 1968. It was originally my Great Grandma's then my Mum's and now mine. I had it at university with me and had great fun with it. Sadly the car is no longer road worthy and I haven't the time/money/ability to bring it back to life.

I'm going into the Army in January and have regretably come to the conclusion that now is the time to part ways with my beloved car. However, I'm not ready to simply dump it on E-bay and would like some well informed advice first.

What I'm hoping for, therefore, is a London based enthusiast who may be able to come and visit my car and I, have a quick look and perhaps give me a little advice on where would be best to sell it, how much I should ask for it and any other advice. Any potential buyers would be great, but I'm afraid I have no photos to show you at this stage.

The car is currently living at my TA barracks, on City Road in London. It is a few minutes walk from Old Street or Moorgate tube stations. I could be available at almost any time to meet someone who may be able to help.

Any chance you can post some photo's up.
You say its not roadworthy do you know what it needs doing as we do get cars requiring some work offered for free, it will depend on how much work is needed, has it got an MOT failure certificate saying what's needed.

Mike, don't do it, its got real family history, you'll kick yourself one day for not keeping hold of it. Once you get into the green machine there are loads of REME blokes that will help you out getting it back in road worthy condition. Or,Hire a garage somewhere and put it away for safe keeping. Great project for when you come out of the Army one day. in the meantime, keep yourself safe mate.

yes unfortunately a lot of non road worthy cars are given away free

Mike... I'm glad I never got rid of my moms moggy.... 22 years it stood in a garage. Then with no previous car experience and within the space of 18 months it's almost back on the road again.

It's not been easy and many people on here have contributed to helping me get through it.

If you do hang onto it... keep it in a waterproof garage, and the car will not deteriorate. Rubbers my go hard, but the steel will keep as it is now.

First of all Mike, good luck with your Army career, fair play to you mate.

Regarding your Moggie, think hard about this one, with such a long family history you might well regret selling it later. Unroadworthy Minors dont fetch much anyway, people always want them for nothing. If you have somewhere to store it away it will be waiting for you when you have time to sort it out. You will probably find some of your Army mates will help you do it.
