Ash wood

Post by lyndon79 »

Hi

I have a Standard Big 9 I am restoring into a pick up and I have used Ash wood. Could you advise me on what treatment to use?

I have read the other threads that primarily recommend Varnish of different descriptions, but I am concerned as a pick up it is likely to get knocked about a bit more and therefore may chip and look unsighlty.

Therefore can anyone recommend any kind of suitable Oil or other finish. I have read maybe Teak or Danish oil is suitable? What's the difference?

Thank-you

I use Teak oil - only problem is - it remains slightly 'sticky' for quite a while and so attracts dirt. But at least it doesn't have that 'shiney' look of varnish! Nor does it trap water in the timber - under the varnish.
