Not without some serious (expensive ) engineering to the rear crank bearing and a new crankshaft

Yep, it can it only needs a the alloy spacer plate to be machined along with the 1275 backplate and a bespoke flywheel to take either a Minor or Ford clutch and will fit easily. No need for 'expensive engineering' to the crank.
I thought the Maestro engine had a mini like crank with the taper?

Maestro engine had a good attempt at providing a proper rear seal between crank and block. As I remember - the crank tail is slightly longer - and the flywheel would need to be 'Minor' type - and modified to fit the crank. It's do-able - but only worthwhile if the engine is at a good price - which this one is not!
You cannot use the Minor flywheel, we have designed our own unit, to take either the Minor or Ford clutch see this linkhttp://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/images/maestr ... heelAA.jpg
For a low milage engine I'd say £150 even £200 would be a bargain, simply for the knowledge that it will breath and seal like no other A series. If taken out to a 1360 with mild cam and MG metro induction this makes one stonking motor and as the crank and flywheel/clutch is balanced one very smooth operator too.
Hmmm - I had a BRAND NEW one - but decided the work to make the flywheel fit was too much (for me anyway) - sold it to a very happy Maestro owner for £50! And yes Jono - thinking back - I realised the Minor fly wouldn't fit - which was what finished off for me !
