Peeling painted floor

Post by bsua4c »

The paint and underseal is peeling off the underside of Ned, whats the best treatment to go on the underneath.
I will get it up on some ramps at the weekend and thoroughly brush him down but would like something that will not rust or peel to go back on.

Cheers Rob

The main thing is to eliminate - or at least 'neutralise' any rust - don't just paint over it and hope it will go away!

If you are removing all paint and underseal then clean off all rust and spray/paint with a zinc rich primer. prime and seam seal if required then stonechip, followed by another coat of primer. Over this paint with a top coat of either celly or 2K paint then an optional thin coating of underseal.

I do suggest a wash with Jenolite (or similar) before even the zinc-rich primer.

Out of curiosity, what did they leave the factory with?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Body colour. At least my 67 saloon was, largely intact under a layer of greasy stuff that someone had applied and which was starting to fall off. Not much in the way of protection from the factory.
