If we swap the 948 convertible's smooth gearbox for the ribbed one we've got in stock, will it have to have the later type clutch, or can it continue with the older type one its got? (and if either can be used, is it 'better' to use the later one or doesn't it make much difference?) Thanks in advance!
Clutch has to match flywheel - so best to use 1098 flywheel/clutch - also 1098 engine backplate - and 1098 gearbox. Keep the matched set and all will be well. If you don't have the 1098 backplate (it's the thick one) it 'may' be ok too - but I can't be sure.
Excellent, and thanks both - I've collected a range of spares for 948s and 1098s, so 1098 backplate, flywheel and clutch it will be! As a final thought - can I take it that the gearbox mounts are the same?
Yes they are. The only "other" driveline difference is the thickness of the prop flange at the diff end. The 1098 flange is slightly thicker but either prop will fit.
