Moggie dealer Tewkesbury or Gloucester

Post by robertquarmby »

I've just received from the DVLA the historic record of my Moggie 2 door saloon VDF 303 J which was registered to the first owner who lived in Tewkesbury. Can anyone tell me the name and address of the Morris dealer in this town or in Gloucester. The original log book was made out to the first owner so therefore the dealer is not listed.
Many thanks
Bob

Just because the first owner lived in Tewkesbury it doesn't necessarily follow that the car was provided by a local dealer. For instance, the owner of my first car lived in Essex but the car was purchased from a main dealer in Acton, West London. If you want to know the dealer that your car was supplied to when it left the factory you would need to purchase a Heritage Certificate. Details are contained in this thread:

moggie dealer Tewkesbury or Gloucester

Is it possible that the owners club hold or have access to the sales records giving details of the dealers the cars were delivered to?

The club won't hold this information but it might be available at Gaydon. See attached link:

I drive through tewks most work days (in the Morris!) so can take a pic if you find out where it is/was.

I think the last Rover dealer round here was in Gloucester not far from the (new) cattle market. Gone now of course.

I'm not from round here originally, (and like Andrew, far too young to know first hand!) but I'll ask around and find out if anyone knows where there would be a Morris Dealer.

Thanks Andrew for the offer but I paid £5 to the Heritage Centre requesting the production date and the dealer it was shipped to. I had an email today notifying me that the moggie was produced on the 3rd August 1970 and shipped to Colmore Depot Ltd Angle Street Worcester. Colmore Depot were in the past a very large nationwide dealership and possibly had a depot in Tewkesbury or Gloucester

worcester's not far from Glos or Tewks. Was the HQ in Worcester or was that the branch?

(are you sure it's Angle Street, is it not Angel Street?)

Didn't realise you could find that out, that's pretty cool.

The email I received does state Angle St Worcester. I'm pretty sure that Colmore Depot were or may still be a large car dealership covering a number of towns and counties. I say this because my moggie was first registered in Gloucestershire and I can't see how this came about when the car was delivered to worcestershire. Perhaps Colmore Depot had a dealership in Gloucestershire. I need to try and find this out.

My minor was registered in Gloucestershire, it was bought from a dealership in Stroud, possibly not too far away...

Andrew
Stroud is in Gloucestershire so you would expect the car to be registered in Gloucestershire. My car was delivered to the dealer in Worcester (Worcestershire) but was first registered in Gloucestershire so I am trying to establish if there was or is a Colmore Depot dealership somewhere in Gloucestershire.
