New windscreen

Post by jimbo1 »

I intend to put a new windscreen (heated variety) in my van as the old one is very scratched and chipped to the point where I don't like going out when its dark and raining at the same time. When it was rebuilt (within the last 10 years) I'm pretty sure it had a new rubber seal fitted which is in good condition with no signs of perishing. Would I be advised to replace it anyway, and regardless is it a good idea to use mastic and if so what do you use?
By the way for those folks about to advise, yes i do have an alternator and the wiring and switch and relay already fitted!

If you are going to cough up for a heated screen, buy a new rubber seal. Proper mastic for windscreens is available.

And get it fitted professionally - you don't want to crack an ubber expensive heated screen!

Go for a new rubber and if the screen surround is in good condition ie no spreading or rust patches , then do not use a sealer.
