Whilst preparing the Traveller for the MOT I noticed that one of the wires from the fuse box to the coil had, in the past, shorted out and had melted all the insulation. A somewhat bodged repair had been carried out so I cut out and replaced the length of wire with new. I'm interested in any thoughts as to what would have caused this short to happen in the first place? Regulator fault / Coil fault / distributor fault..... ???
You might be able to see the wire in question in this photo - it is the one with clear plastic sleeve around it...

Yes - I see that now - but a 'short' will affect the whole length of the wire - not just that one wee bit. Looking at the other wiring - I suspect something else has maybe shorted - and fallen against that wire ?
OK thanks Roy - I've checked and tightened all the wiring in the vicinity so nothing can fall off again. I was just concerned that I would connect everything up and the wire short out again if it was due to a faulty componant....
