Can we identify the Year, Colour and I.D. Tag

Hi friend of mine has recently got a Black MM Tourer.
(Not the original colour) And from Mr Newells "Originial"
Book I see it is a late Dec 1950.

There is a small aluminium tag on the top of the fire wall on the passenger side. There looks to be Dark Green paint under this.
We assume it could be the original colour. However from the book
it says that Mist Green was the only green colour in production at
that time.

So my questions are:
1) Was there a Dark Green Produced late 1950?
2) What is the purpose of the Aluminium tag?
3) Have I got the year correct?
4) And approx how many Series MM's a day or week where built?

The numbers on the car are:
SMM 79509
Eng no: 78778
Aluminium tag : BMT 17100

Do you know if the car is orignally Australian or an import?
According to all info I have the last built in England in 1950 was number 79756 and the only available colours were black, mist green, gascoyne grey and Thames blue. However, it's possible it was CKD kit built in 1951, in which case it could have been painted any colour when new.
I'm not sure how they were exported to Australia though, whether they were whole or CKD/PKD

they exported in the early years as either whole or ckd, mainly ckd though. if it was a ckd it would be stamped on the chassis plate Nuffield Australia.

Romain green would be my guess at the colour!

Hi Oliver,
How are things going on your side of the world?
The last entry on my register for 1950 is the Mazengarb car, SMM 79503 which was for sale back in March. Did it ever sell and if so do you know where it went?
The tag on the engine bulkhead was I believe, the body no. but what the significance of it was I do not know. Cars exported as ckd for local completion in Australia had a locally assigned construction number which is listed on the website copy of the register. CKD cars also had a weld line across the bulkhead where the two halves were joined together. Not sure if that is true in all cases. If cars were assembled locally I can think of no reason why thy would not have been painted in whatever colour was available. The alternative would be to discard the obsolete paint and for the factory workers to be driving around in freshly resprayed cars.
