Devils Dyke sounds good to me, there are plenty of facilities and a large car park and I have a discount card for the Beefeater! (provided Whitbread haven't sold it off since I was last there).
Any ideas where to start or possibly a multi start?

How would it work if we all agreed to ARRIVE at the same time and suggested a preferred route. In theory we would meet up on the way and build up a convoy.

But it wouldn't be a London to Brighton run then, more like everyone travelling to a website rally with some meeting up en route to form a convoy depending on which direction they were travelling from. I don't mind either option but I thought that the idea was to bring back a London to Brighton run, in which case you would need a designated starting point in London.

I hate driving in London, how about some meeting points just off the M25?

The last London to Brighton (and the one before?) started from behind Wandsworth prison.
By no means as grim as it sounds, there was a cafe and a nice grassy square to park up on.
I seem to recall it had been organised by an East Sussex member. I'll ask some of the other members from my branch if they have any details.

Good idea!

Driving in London at the weekend is much more pleasant and scenic than the M25 :D

I'd be up for it in principle - as long as its a Sunday and the car is insured I'll be able to go.

Suggestion for starting point - Ace Cafe. Have a slap up breakfast and then down to devils dyke.....

The other alternative for a finish point would be the Bently wildfowl and motor Museum.... - make a web RALLY of it.....

ACE would be a good starting place (with their permission - the place gets booked up very quickly) EXCEPT the distance required to go through London.... probably mainly North/South circular round to the A23

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The cafe car park isn't that big so if a reasonable number of Minors were turning up you'd have to let them know plenty of time in advance as they run events most weekends. And north west London isn't the best of places to get to the A23 from. The previous London - Brighton runs have always started off 'south of the river'.

I went on a London to Brighton Run a few years ago with MG owners club that went from Crystal Palace, the only trouble is I can't remember the route we took from there, only it was quite scenic. :-?

I co-organised the Triumph London to Brighton Run this year and we had hoped for Madeira Drive, however, the local council wanted £15,000 to block off the Drive. This is roughly equal to the parking revenue for the day. We declined, but parked up at the end anyway. The only folk who complained were one or two berks on pushbikes. We ignored them :D

The Marina is another option. I can supply you with the contact details if you like.

We had 3 starting points:

The Ace Cafe, somewhere in Greenwich and Boxhill. We met at some stately home place that had lovely gardens and went on a meandering run to Brighton from there. Nice day out and lovely weather.

Well I asked the people who I'd hoped would know who arranged the start from Wandsworth prison but they didn't remember :( .

I'd vote for Drive it Day. Can't think of a better day!

However, 25th April is also the date of the 2010 London Marathon, so driving in & around London might be a bit busy, especially central London.

I've always wanted to visit the Ace Cafe too. How about a poll on dates & starting venue?
