Help! Convertible Roof attempting to fly off!

Post by jaxx »

Anyone know if I can buy the bits that hold my roof on to the front of the car separately? Only seen roof kits so far! Making for interesting driving though!

:o

AND

THANKS to the SADMOG guys for their advice and help! Will take notes next time! I did manage to move the tube thing away from the battery and the spark plugs - well chuffed at my first attempt at mechanics/

Which bits are you after Jaxx?

I know bog all about soft tops but I thought the roof is held by catches at the front!

Hello!

Mine screws on to 2 upright posts (about an inch high) on the top of the windscreen. They look like long wingnuts. The right one just keeps on turning and doesn't grip so that side is liable to fly off. Yay!

The bolts which secure the hood at the front are called 'butterfly bolts'. Available from ESM (probably everywhere else as well). Part no: CON 104. £5-50 each.

Also there is a captive nut within the wooden 'beam' on the front of the hood frame. It could be this that is at fault. Examining the thread of the wingnut should establish which thread has failed.

The method of fixing the hood down at the front does concern me slightly. It relies on 4 fasteners into the screen surround and the quality of the weld of the pin to the plate.

I do tie down my hood from the frame to the roll cage if I intend to go above 70mph, just in case!

Never thought of using anything to tie down the hood. Any ideas on how to prevent it blowing out over the door tops at that sort of speed? Is a custom-made one likely to be any better?
