Hi
I shall be in the UK shortly and I want to pick up reasonably-priced amp & speakers for an iPod set-up in a moggy. (Prices are so much cheaper than in France).
Any recommendations - or products to avoid?
I dont want top-of-the-range stuff, just a simple 2 speaker set-up.
Also, ideas for an iPod mount: what about the suction type things, do they leave a mark on the paintwork if/when removed?

Hi there. I am considering doing this too because all I use is the iPod. I am fairly sure that most have a simple 2 speaker output and the red and white input for which you can get an ipod connector into. The only thing I am unsure about it how the power connects to it. No doubt you can modify the power lead that comes with it to fit to the battery.
I have looked on ebay for a few and they are Ok prices but the postage is quite alot. If you find out about or anyone else knows about how to power the amp from a Morris Minor please do tell.
As for the iPod suction thing, I don't think they leave a mark unless you leave it on there for a long time. It won't mark your window though.

well, if you have a tape-player fitted you can buy tapes that slot into the player and attach to your ipod.

yer I have looked at that but I don't have any music system. I did have a cheap car amplifier from China on ebay but it broke. I have the usual hifi type speakers and just need the amplifier. I might buy one and see what happens

as for power, use this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Charger-Adapter ... 286.c0.m14)
Modify this by removing the cigarette adapter to show red and white cable to be connected to battery.
as for amplifier, any amplifier with an AUX (with red/white RCA input) will do. of course with enough outputs for your 2 speakers.
as for sound from ipod to speakers, use this (http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-to-AV-RCA-Aud ... 286.c0.m14)
Above would be the simplest setup you can do and could be use with any device i.e phone,mp3/mp4 player with a 3.5mm jack.
Hope this helps

I have an iRiver which runs for a much longer time on a battery than an ipod and doesn't require an additional power sources, so this may not apply to you. In my Chevy, I installed a simple, 2-channel amp ($70 US) under the seat, and 1 speaker in the stock dash location ($10 US). Works great. I have 1 wire that goes from the player to the amp. The player sits on the seat and I can adjust the volume, tune the radio, and skip songs while driving, but when I'm at a show, it just slips under the seat or into my pocket and it looks like I just have a stock radio.
