Aircooled minor?

Post by Kustom »

I vaguely remember, seeing on some website a few years ago, that someone out there was building a front engined air cooled minor, using a lowlight I think, and very early beetle running gear in a bid to replicate what the original Minor would have been like. Can anyone help me find that page again? Google has been no help!

Any further pictures/info welcome :)

All Minors are air-cooled. Admittedly there is a water filled interface, but the cooling is definitely done by air!

The original concept for the Minor was not air cooled - True it was a flat 4 engine but it was water cooled with the rad mounted behind the engine, hence the slats cut into the bonnet to direct the air to the rad....

Frank : Oqod hemm ghax nisraqlek il metro!

Mick: I had to do a double take on that one hehehe I just browsed past your reply thinking it would be yet another post pulling my leg for the request...but my mind kept telling me something was not right....then I noticed the very well edited picture

PSL: Thanks for the clarification :) In my mind flat 4 engines tend to be VW aircooled first and foremost.. then anything else :) Always had a soft spot for Beetles really.

So does anybody know about the project which I am referring to? I'm 100% sure I did not dream it up....! :)

It was in Minor Monthly a couple of years ago I believe. It was a bit of a mystery. An early lowlight had been discovered, apparantly it had never been on the road due to being in an accident while on its way to the dealer. It had been converted to front wheel drive using a combination of early Beetle and Nazi amphibious landing craft parts, many of which carried the Nazi cogwheel logo. I think it did have a flat four engine. At some point it had been fitted with later front wings.

I'm sorry I really can't remember any more than that.
