SPEEDO Replacement

Post by ayr41 »

I'm doing a straight swop for my broken Speedometer in my Minor Saloon, could some please give me some advice on how to remove the old unit and replace with the New/Old stock one I have managed to aquire, all I have done so far is remove the passenger glovebow but before I went further has anyone had any experience of the best way of getting these out, many thanks Stephen.

No ned to remove gloveboxes - just poke screwdriver through the thoughfully provided holes - and slacken the screws. Then grasp and wriggle the spedo forwards through the dash. Undo electricals/remove warning lights (remember which goes where) - and disconnect the cable. reverse ops for the 'new' speedo. Are you sure it's not the cable that's bust - rather than speedo? Test speedo with electric drill - must be reversible - use a small square 'bit' in the chuck.

Ahh -good reason then! Hope the new speedo has same tpm as the old one ?
I was down in Ayr a few days ago - on one of the rare sunny days - in my TR7 with hood down of course!
Didn't see any Lilac Minors buzzing around!

How strange - you are #18 on one side and 81 on the other. And the steering has been swapped over too.............
I suspect a smoke and mirrors trick here!

haha yup thats right. Its a mirror effect with sepia background. I found it amusing that the numbers can be read when mirrored so i did a mirror effect. No smoke effect though :)

Ps: the left side picture is the original

Yep got the Speedo off ebay came this morning thought I would have to pay a lot more than that for a new old stock unit so very pleased with that. Not out and about yet as the front seats are being recoved and refurbished, when I have the speedo in choke is next then tyres to replace after that normal sevicing required and a coat of underseal, should keep me busy over the winter, you are more than welcome to come to see the car just over the road from the racecourse, heres to a dry weekend?
