Traveller knocking noise

Post by mike.perry »

I have a knocking noise which appears to be coming from the area around the wooden panel covering the left side B post. If you tap the seat belt buckle against the panel you get the same noise.
However I have removed the belt top mounting, removed the wooden panel and tightened the large body screws and it still knocks.
What is it?????????? :-?

Obviously from the response to this question, the problem is unique to my traveller. It is still knocking

Kinda difficult to guess at without hearing it and being there. I can only suggest you strip out / off as much as possible until you find what it is. It may be anything.....

If you tap the wooden covering over the B post with your knuckles then that echoing noise is what I am getting but with the panel and seat belt top mounting removed.
Are there any chassis/body diagrams of a traveller? Maybe there is something loose behind a panel. Or the woodwork is parting company with the cab!!!!!

Not come across that before Mike but I did once have a small knocing that was murder to track down and it turned out to be a loose seat mounting bolt not likely but worth a check as I would have thought that loose wood against the cab area would also be accompanied with a water leak.

I have removed the seat belt mounting so eliminated that source and the panel is only trim so no water leaks.

I meat the seat base mounting Mike not the seatbelt, as for the leaking I meant if the wood was loose at the bodywork not from behind the wood fillet, could it be worth giving steve forman a call in case he can offer a solution.
Cheers

If the knocking is coming from the top wood fillet that the top part of the safety belt attaches then I have the same problem! It appears that the bolt that fits the belt to the car is too long and this leaves a bit of play between it and the wood. I've noticed it on my passenger side but not on driver's side - but it seems that when both belts are in use is doesn't do it. A small thin piece of rubber may stop this noise.

Cheers for that suggestion but I am ahead of you, I fitted a rubber grommet between the spacer and the top mounting AND IT STILL KNOCKS. If I fit a shorter bolt then it will not screw into the mounting thread. I think that I am going to go with Kevin's suggestion and ring Steve Foreman.

Hmm at least that is narrowing it down a bit, if I get a chance and it won't be at least until Sunday I will take mine apart and take pictures of the parts with measurements if you like, then at least we can do a comparison to see if anything varies at all.
Cheers

Mike, did you find the cause within the last 6.5 years? I was about to start a new thread when I found this one which is the exact issue that I've been having. I'm sure the sound has gotten worse within the last 2 months prompting me to look for a solution.

The Traveller has been off the road for the last couple of years and at the the moment is having a go faster engine fitted so I had forgotten about the squeaks and rattles but I am sure that they will still be there when it hits the road again in a few weeks time
