Plugs were new NGK's from Bull Motif in June, coil is wired -ve to dissy and car is -ve earth.

Backfire is now cured, but it was off accelerator.

Yes it was nice to see you in your 'B, also spotted a beetle at wolseley. I have turned the dissy a tad more.

My mate had endless problem with his MGB after fitting a set of NGKs. I fitted a set of old Champion plugs from my bag - and all his problems disappeared. I threw the NGKs into the field - to save him being tempted to refit them ! May be worth a change.

help

Post by StaffsMoggie »

You could have a point there bmc, NGKs have not been my choice since my old TR7 ran badly on them. I still think it should be running better than it is though even with those plugs. Trial and error with the timing? Champion plugs seem hard to find lately.

Rugeley seems to have a few classics running about lately Brian, there is a nice A35 not far from us.

Lee, Yes there's a Riley and A35 just up from you and an Austin Gypsy round the corner from me. Plus several VW campers, a herald, Mk1 Escort and plenty of Mini's.

Nice to have some culture in Brereton :D

Just looked BMC, but the only N9Y's are from America. The uk ones are alternatives.

Thanks for that LouiseM, I'll go for a set of those.

That's the thing with ebay, you have to search in the right place. I did a general search from the home page and it only came up with 2 UK hits and one US.

Did a search on the Champion site and the modern equivqlent is RN9YC, see below; any thouhts if these are ok as a direct equivalent? (just thinking for the future when the N9Y's run out) Doesn't the last C denote hotter running?

I think the C refers to copper for the core - The heat range should be the same....

Any extras before or after the 'N9Y' are just add-ons. Still basically the same plug. I'm actually running N6Ys these days - and it seems to prefer them - but it's not a standard motor.

Yes the chap with that Riley RM spent years doing that. The Herald and Escort are looking very nice and that split screen VW belongs to a friend of mine, it was in a very poor state when he bought it.

Ebay is probably the easiest place to get Champion plugs these days, and Lucas contact sets.
