a mate as offered me a 1275 mini engine minus gearbox am i right in thinking you cant use the mini block and would need an ital/marina/miget block?
you advice would be much apreciated
You can use the Mini engine, our engine builder has converted several to RWD using the Maestro crank seal and venting plate. Its not cheap to do but cures the problem of one ,finding a RWD 1275 and the crank oil seal, plus it offers added ventilation of the sump should you go for forced induction.
The Maestro crank is used to convert to RWD which comes with the seal. Yes its more expensive but it doesn't leak, breathes better and uses up 1275 Mini engines if one is unable to find a 1275 RWD unit. See pics (seen here with an original RWD unit)
That's why we are offering the service BM. I believe we have around 20 left.
Top pic shows bespoke flywheel machined for a Ford clutch if going the Type 9, 5 speed route.
Current engine development revolves around 1098's and 80tho overbore, MG metro heads and 1.5" carb. = big torque and 75-80 bhp.
Jonathon, have you details of 80 over pistons for the 1098 please? Last time I was contemplating things like that I found the shallow crown height a problem, that was a few years back though!

They are available from Australia I believe - at a price! Unless of course J has sourced some pistons from another engine - that can be used ? Back in the day - Imp pistons used to be popular for Mini engines - possibly also suitable for the longer stroke 1098.
Correct BM, the pistons are from OZ. We have used the others for our 1360cc conversions and have found them to be excellent quality.
I do not have any tech details as we do not build the motors. If you are interested LA I can obtain details tomorrow.
Errr - NO! Keep the head - use it on a 1098 -flog the engine to a Mini person. I suspect Jono's conversion on the 1275 will be close to 4 figures. Of course - if that's what you want - contact him!
I kept a set for over 20 years - and eventually used them in a Mini engine. Just flog the complete Mini engine - less head - there will be plenty of takers.
